The Center for Financial Health is a comprehensive Housing Counseling agency with a mission to “help working families and individuals build assets through home ownership.” We are MSHDA certified and are an approved provider of HUD counseling services. Homebuyer education workshops and financial management classes as well as individual one-on-one housing counseling and foreclosure prevention counseling are open to everyone, and there is no charge to the client. The Center for Financial Health was incorporated in October, 2005, and received IRS approval as a 501(c)3 non-profit on October 2, 2006. It was formed by Financial Health Credit Union (now Option 1 Credit Union) to provide financial education, home ownership education, individual housing counseling, foreclosure prevention counseling, and IDA program services to help low- and moderate-income individuals and families build assets through home ownership. As of February 2009, the Michigan Credit Union League hosts the Center and provides office space and staff support at their offices in downtown Lansing. The Center for Financial Health is now able to meet clients in both Lansing and East Lansing locations.
